• Author: N. R. de Mexico, pseudonym of Robert Campbell Bragg (1918–1954), a Greenwich Village writer who knew Jack Kerouac.
• Publication history: Originally published in 1951 by Universal Publishing (Uni-Book No. 19) in digest format as an original novel, followed by a Stallion Books digest reprint (No. 204). Beacon then issued it as a standard paperback under B328 in 1960, with a later 75¢ Beacon reprint numbered S75124.
• Cover: Classic "good girl art" pulp cover
• Plot: Joyce Taylor, a high-school girl, is suspended right before graduation after a striptease incident in the gym; she then gets pulled into a relationship with an older man and into the jazz-and-marijuana subculture of the city.
• Cultural note: The book became Exhibit A in a 1950s Congressional subcommittee's campaign (led by Rep. Ezekiel C. Gathings) against drug themes in paperback fiction, and is now held in institutional collections like the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum in Amsterdam.
