First vs. later printing: Pyramid reprinted it in 1963. That 1963 edition was the first to use different cover art. So a copy with this De Reyna cover, the G352 number and the 35¢ price is the 1958 first.

The title wasn't Ellison's. He called the manuscript Web of the City. The publisher renamed it Rumble without telling him. He had originally sold the novel to Lion Books, a small but influential paperback house, but Pyramid acquired it before it came out. The later retitling restored his original name.

Ellison later became one of the most celebrated and combative figures in speculative fiction. He won multiple Hugos and Nebulas, wrote "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" and "The City on the Edge of Forever," and edited Dangerous Visions. Collectors want first books by major authors, and juvenile delinquency paperbacks with strong painted covers are popular in their own right, so this one draws from both groups.
